I Wish I Am A Graduate - Reminisce

Nigerian indigenous rapper, Reminisce has opened up on the importance of formal education with an encouragement to up and coming acts to get lettered.

Remilekun Abdulkalid Safaru, aka Reminisce

Rapper, Remilekun Abdulkalid Safaru, aka Reminisce, has achieved quite a lot with his music career. He has a huge following and he is also a brand ambassador for some reputable companies.

However, the Kako bi Chicken crooner is not entirely happy; he wishes he was a graduate.

Speaking to Sunday Scoop about the music industry, he said, “For anybody who wants to make a career out of music, you have to be sure that you are skilled and that it’s something that you can do sustainably; if not, go to school. Either ways, it is important to go to school, whether you go into full-time music or not. I actually regret not being a graduate.”

Speaking about how he has been able to shield his personal life from the public, Reminisce said, “I always keep my private life private as I believe that I have the right to my privacy. There is a very big difference between Reminisce, the artiste, and Remi, the family man. I thank God because I’m comfortable and I don’t need validation on social media. I don’t have to put everything I own on social media so that people would know that I have arrived. Inasmuch as I’m not begging anybody for food, it’s all good. Instead of flaunting material things, I prefer to invest in people.”

Apart from music, what else does he like to do? The Angelina rapper said, “I am interested in politics and I see myself becoming a politician in future. One is not going to do music forever and I need to plan my life properly. I also love to engage in business, so I see myself doing a lot of that too.”

Kanye West's Mental Breakdown Linked with Marijuana by Insurer

Insurer of American rapper, Kanye West has declined to pay him a sum of $10 million over issues relating with Marijuana intake.

Kanye West

Kanye West's tour insurer Lloyd's of London claims marijuana may have caused his mental breakdown late last year.

The rapper is suing the insurance company, claiming it is refusing to pay him after he was forced to cancel shows in November last year.

According to legal documents Lloyd's suggest marijuana may have led to Kanye's mental health issues in a bid to invalidate the performer's insurance claim, according to The Sun.

The 40-year-old is asking for $10million in damages, claiming the company has yet to pay him out for his cancelled shows.

Furthermore, he claims it has shown no signs it intends to pay him, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Gold Digger rapper first filed a loss claim with the company just days after famously suffering a mental breakdown in November, which saw him cancelling 21 dates for his shows.

Kanye checked into a psychiatric hospital as a result of the breakdown, but more than eight months later, he's claiming both he and his company, Very Good Touring, Inc., still haven't been paid.

His company said in a legal document filed on Tuesday that insurers have yet to pay and is 'implying that Kanye's use of marijuana may provide them with the basis to deny the claim'.

Almost immediately after being hospitalized, Kanye's physician provided the insurance company with sworn testimony he was unfit to take to the stage.

According to the complaint, the insurance company then sought to amend the terms of its coverage in an effort to avoid paying him out.

'Immediately turning to legal counsel made it clear that Defendants' goal was to hunt for any ostensible excuse, no matter how fanciful, to deny coverage or to maneuver themselves into a position of trying to negotiate a discount on the loss payment,' the suit states.

Following his breakdown, Kanye also submitted to an independent medical examination (IME) with a doctor selected by the insurance company, who also deemed him unfit to perform.

He also presented for an examination under oath (EUO), along with at least 11 members of his team. The lawsuit also accuses the insurance company of leaking damaging information about the star to media outlets, all in a bid to avoid paying out his insurance.

Among the information he claims is being leaked includes his alleged drug use, which Kanye and his team have branded 'irrelevant facts'.

Kanye's lawyers have come out swinging, saying this should serve as a warning to any other musician considering hiring Lloyd's of London.

'Performing artists who pay handsomely to insurance companies within the Lloyd's of London marketplace to obtain show tour 'non-appearance or cancellation' insurance should take note of the lesson to be learned from this lawsuit: Lloyd's companies enjoy collecting bounteous premiums; they don't enjoy paying claims, no matter how legitimate,' lawyer Howard King writes in the suit.

'Their business model thrives on conducting unending 'investigations', of bona fide coverage requests, stalling interminably, running up their insured's costs, and avoiding coverage decisions based on flimsy excuses.'

'The artists think they're buying peace of mind. The insurers know they're just selling a ticket to the courthouse.'

4. Moving In Together

The first step towards real long-term commitment, the halfway plunge is a hugely important aspect of any relationship.

6. Marriage

Marriage is a true declaration of love. Planning the perfect wedding is a great task. The build up of the big day is a time of great anticipation and anxiety for both the bride and groom. This day brings a sense of joy and relief.

7. Honeymoon

Since the knot has been tied it is only normal as a couple to go on a romantic getaway, and celebrate the life ahead. It’s important that the honeymoon is in a quiet serene location, suiting both of your desires.

8. Children

Deciding to have children is a very important milestone as you reach a new stage of responsibility and develop a new kind of love. The rest of your lives would be more devoted to the beautiful children who’ll be depending on you for everything.

Fela Anikulapo Kuti

Charly boy, Nigeria's entertainment maverick, on Wednesday eulogised late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, exactly two decades after his demise.

NAN reports that Charly Boy described the late Fela as “unequalled legend who preached against corruption, injustice and other societal ills.

“The truth is Fela never dies; he lives on with his music.

“What Fela stood against across Africa, and Nigeria in particular, that made many to call him a mad man, are still very much our problems today.

“He talked about suffering and smiling, corruption, and fear of death that made people keep quiet or indifferent to bad governance.

“Nigeria will forever miss this great social activist and advocate of justice and equity,” he said.

Charly boy, who was a past President of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), added that Fela was a pride to Nigeria, by taking the African musical genre to the global stage.

On his part, Mr Agility Onwura, Chairman, FCT chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), described the late afrobeat superstar as a “philosopher and a voice to the voiceless.

“Fela was an advocate to the common man, who believed in equity and fairness.

“His death was not just a lost to Nigerians, but to the global music industry.

“He belonged to the class of Bob Marley, Martin Luther King (Jnr) and other preachers of human freedom.”

Onwurah added that Fela was a multi-talented instrumentalist and singer who believed in his brand without any sense of competition.

He urged young artistes to emulate Fela’s  doggedness, passion and consistency that made his music remain timeless and inspiring, even 20 years after his demise.

NAN reports that Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who died on Aug. 2, 1997 at 59, was a Nigerian  musician, pioneer of the Afrobeat music genre, human rights activist, and political maverick.

Fela made the decision to sing in Pidgin English so that his music could be enjoyed by individuals all over Africa, where the local languages spoken are very diverse and numerous.

As popular as Fela’s music had become in Nigeria and elsewhere, it was also very unpopular with the ruling government, and raids on his popular shrine, Kalakuta Republic were frequent.

Some of his popular songs include ‘Shakara’, ‘Zombie’,’Gentleman’ and ‘Suffering and ‘Smiling’

I Am Very Proud of My Breasts - Busty Ghanaian Singer Sista Afia

A busty Ghanaian singer who is known for showing off her boobs has revealed that she is in love with her endowments and that's why she's always proud to show them off.
Ghanaian singer, Sister Afia

Ghanaian singer, Sister Afia has said she's very proud of her huge breasts even as people have criticized her for using it as her selling point. Afia who is fond of wearing revealing clothes to flaunt her boobs has however responded saying that she wants to erase the perception that her cleavage is her selling point.

The Jeje singer believes her talent is enough to keep her relevant whether she covers up or not.

“I just don’t get why people seem to have issues with what I wear and my boobs.  People keep asking me if apart from my boobs, I have nothing else to show. For the records, my boobs are not my selling point, not at all. I am very talented.

“I don’t get up in the morning and tell myself, today, I want to show my boobs, no, it depends on how I feel. My boobs, my talent and everything form part of the package,’ she said in an interview with Showbiz.

Afia added: “I am very proud of my breasts. They are beautiful and nice. Most girls of today are all over looking for ways to enhance their bust artificially and if I am blessed with them naturally, why should I be ashamed of them. Honestly, I am blessed I must say and I won’t trade them for anything.

“Infact, I cannot do anything about the size of my boobs and how they stand out in clothes. I just have to love them and that is what I am doing. I don’t really care what anyone else thinks. So those who have been talking about them, I cannot help you.

“I remember people had issues with my bikini pictures I released some weeks ago but the question is, what were they expecting me to wear at the beach. If they are not confident with what they have been endowed with by God, I am and I want to flaunt it,” she said.

Sister Afia who is in the studio currently is working on releasing songs with some of the makers and shakers of the music industry in Ghana and beyond.

“I want to come out with a number of songs by the end of the year and I hope to feature some of the big names who have paid their dues in West Africa like Sarkodie, Davido and Patoranking,” the Borkor artiste said.

Talking about working with AMG rapper, Medikal on her lastest song Borkor, she said, “Working with him was interesting and enjoyable. He was spot on with his rap deliveries and knew the right words to use.

“The video shoot was crazy, I wished the day never ended. He had the right attitude and his composure throughout the shoot was amazing. Medikal is a professional, a gentleman and I would not mind working with him again."

Born to Joe Essoun and Madam Perpetual Duncan Williams, Sista Afia said her favourite Ghanaian musicians are E.L, Efya and Kaakie all of whom she plans to do collaborations with some day. Songs she has to her credit include Kro Kro No, Borkor, Jeje, Are You Ready, Yi Wani and Due.

Why I Rejected N700,000 Bribe to Kill a Story - Kano Journalist

A local journalist based in the northern part of the country has exposed some officials who promised him a huge amount of money to kill a story he was reporting.

Nasiru Zango

A Kano-based journalist has said he turned down a N700,000 bribe to kill a story in order to change impressions about Nigerian journalists.

Nasiru Zango, who anchors In Da Ranka (If You Are Alive), a popular daily Hausa magazine programme on Freedom Radio, said due to his show’s popularity, he had repeatedly turned down similar monetary inducements from people in the past.

“It is time for change. You know many people look at journalists as corrupt people,” Mr. Zango told PREMIUM TIMES in an exclusive interview on Tuesday.

“We are just doing our work and we are ready to expose corruption but it’s unfortunate that many people look at us as brown envelope collectors. There are many journalists who are not corrupt.”

Mr. Zango’s ordeal with the alleged bribe-givers began nine months ago after a top official of the Kano Municipal Local Government approached him to stop mentioning their activities on his programme.

“They were allocating plots of land at Kofar Wambai, a popular textile market in Kano, to different people and the traders were complaining,” he said.

“For instance, if you have a shop, they can come and allocate the frontage to some people. But if you are interested, you’ll have to pay between N4 million and N12 million depending on the size of your shop and the location.

“The traders had gone to court and the court ruled that no local government has the right to allocate plots of land, but they continued because they probably have the backing of the state government.”

Mr. Zango said the traders informed him about the situation and he began reporting on it in his programme. A few days later, he alleged that the council officials came calling, first offering to allocate land and other inducements to him, but when he did not budge, they sent a divisional police officer after him.

“I met with the DPO and made it clear to him that I wasn’t interested in any offer and he told me he’d send assassins after me. I reported that in my programme,” Mr. Zango said.

After the DPO was transferred out of the police station, the officials approached Mr. Zango through one of his colleagues, who set up a meeting at a popular hotel in Kano where they said “they don’t like the stories in my programme and are ready to pay anything.”

Thereafter, Mr. Zango said he was offered N1.5 million.

“They sent N700,000 through my colleague and began spreading lies that they had bribed me.

“I spoke with a friend of mine who is into activism and he suggested we take the money to EFCC but I told him we should instead go to the Kano State Anti-Corruption because they are closer to us than EFCC.”

Phone calls and text messages to Sani Mai Nagge, the Chairman of the Kofar Wambai market, were not responded to.

But Muhyi Magaji, the Chairman of the Kano State Anti-Corruption and Public Complaints Commission, confirmed during a press conference that they received a cash of N700,000 from Mr. Zango.

Mr. Magaji stated that the money would be presented as evidence during their investigation, according to the International Centre for Investigative Reporting.

“The journalist walked into the office with the money given to him by one of the parties in the case, asking him to stop running the story but his conscience is not at peace with the money.”

A prophetess in Ibadan who has become fed up with her husband's really obnoxious acts, has taken a proactive step to end her misery.
File photo: A prophetess

An Idi-Ogungun Customary Court, Agodi, Ibadan, on Wednesday dissolved the 15-year marriage between Nike Adenekan, a prophetess; and her pastor husband, Adekunle Adenekan, over an attempt to rape a church member, NAN reports.

Nike filed a divorce suit before the court, seeking dissolution of her marriage to Adenekan, on the grounds of telling lies, immoral acts and threat to life.

In his judgment, the court’s president, Mr. Mukaila Balogun, dissolved the marriage and gave custody of the only child of the union to the petitioner.

Balogun restrained the defendant from further attending the petitioner’s church.

He also ordered him to pay N3,500 as monthly allowance for the maintenance of the child.

The petitioner alleged that her husband tried to rape an 18-year-old church member who lives with her.

Nike narrated how the defendant, on three occasions, tried to rape one of her church members who resides with her.

“My lord, there was a night my husband left me on the bed and climbed on the girl who was sleeping on the floor.

“When I caught him, my husband said he wanted to kill a mosquito on the girl’s body and pleaded with me to forgive him.

“The girl also told me that my husband, on two occasions, attempted to rape her at night when I went to church for special prayers.

“Also, a particular woman in my church told me that daddy (Adenekan) wanted her to be his concubine and threatened to stop coming to my church if daddy continues disturbing her.

“He is in the habit of lying; I never trusted him and cannot fold my hands watching him to destroy my church,” Nike told the court.

She pleaded with the court to grant her request for a divorce, saying she had made up her mind to end the union and that no one could convince her to change her mind.

Responding, Adenekan, who claimed to be a pastor, however, pleaded with the court not to grant Nike’s request, saying she had suffered with him and still wants her as his wife.

Adenekan, who was silent on the allegation of attempted rape, prayed the court to assist him intervene in the matter.

Actress Anita Joseph

Popular Nollywood actress, Anita Joseph, who was one of the actresses that flaunt their good physique on and off the movie set, has revealed why she no longer exposes her body in movies.

While speaking in an exclusive interview with Punch, the beautiful and s*xy actress said that she was crazy about showing off her good body when she first started in the film industry but had changed, adding that she’s now born-again, and had grown to know that dressing properly makes her more classy.

She said, “It is not like I go out of my way to flaunt my body.

"I thank God that I have a good physique. Initially when I got into the industry, I believed in flaunting what I had; and I don’t think there is anything wrong in that.

“However, as I have grown older in the industry, I have grown beyond those things. These days, I prefer to wear decent clothes that cover me properly.

“However, even if I wear a free-flowing gown, my curves would still show. I have discovered that being covered up is even more classy and sexy than exposing delicate parts of the body.

“A lot of people don’t know this, but I’m actually born – again; a redeemed child of God. It is important to look beyond the outward appearance before judging people.

“There have been times I went astray, but the good thing is that God is a very caring father and he always accepts me back with love.”

Angela Okorie's Foreign Trips Funded by Sugar Daddy? Actress Says She Made Her Money from Music

Actress Angela Okorie

While speaking in an exclusive interview with Punch newspaper, popular Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie, who in recent times, has been having the time of her life, travelling around the world and living lavish, has reacted to critics which to insinuate that a big man somewhere must be sponsoring her enviable lifestyle.

She said; “It is very annoying and insulting to say that a man must sponsor me before I can travel out of the country. Before I came into the movie industry, I was a model and singer and I was making good money from that. Even as an actress, I have appeared in a lot of films and my services are still very much in demand. I am also involved in some other things as well.

"For anybody to now say that I’m living off anybody is the height of being dumb. Everything I am today is by the grace of God and my sweat. I am a very hard-working and independent person. I know what I want and I constantly go for it. I don’t need anybody to sponsor me,” she said.

Speaking on how she reacts to the controversies that have trailed her career, she said, “Right now, I have developed a thick skin, so I hardly get bothered when some funny things are written or said about me. You should also know that many of these things are untrue and are just figments of the imagination of whoever wrote it.

"I remain true to myself and I will continue doing what I know how to do best. A lot of people don’t understand that acting is make-believe so what they feel they know about me is false. I am a very homely and reserved person. Those who truly know me know what I’m capable of.”

U.S President Trump Swears in New Chief of Staff

President Donald Trump

Hoping to turn the page on a tumultuous opening chapter to his presidency, U.S. President Donald Trump insisted on Monday there is "no chaos" in his White House as he swore in retired Marine Gen. John Kelly as chief of staff.

In an Oval Office ceremony, Trump predicted Kelly, who previously served as Homeland Security chief, would do a "spectacular job." And the president chose to highlight an improving stock market and strong jobs outlook rather than talk about how things need to change under Kelly.

Trump on Friday ousted Reince Priebus as chief of staff and turned to Kelly, whom he hopes will bring military discipline to an administration weighed down by a stalled legislative agenda, infighting among West Wing aides and a stack of investigations.

While Trump is looking for a reset, he pushed back against criticism of his administration on Twitter Monday. He said: "Highest Stock Market EVER, best economic numbers in years, unemployment lowest in 17 years, wages raising, border secure, S.C.: No WH chaos!"

Kelly's success in a chaotic White House will depend on how much authority he is granted and whether Trump's dueling aides will put aside their rivalries to work together. Also unclear is whether a new chief of staff will have any influence over the president's social media histrionics.

Former Trump campaign manager Cory Lewandowski, who was ousted from the campaign in June 2016, said on NBC's "Meet the Press" that he expected Kelly would "restore order to the staff" but also stressed that Trump was unlikely to change his style.

"I say you have to let Trump be Trump. That is what has made him successful over the last 30 years. That is what the American people voted for," Lewandowski said.

"And anybody who thinks they're going to change Donald Trump doesn't know Donald Trump."

Kelly's start follows a wild week, marked by a profane tirade from the new communications director, Trump's continued attacks on his attorney general and the failed effort by Senate Republicans to overhaul the nation's health care law.

In addition to strain in the West Wing and with Congress, Kelly starts his new job as tensions escalate with North Korea. The United States flew two supersonic bombers over the Korean Peninsula on Sunday in a show of force against North Korea, following the country's latest intercontinental ballistic missile test. The U.S. also said it conducted a successful test of a missile defence system located in Alaska.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said on CBS' "Face the Nation" that she hopes Kelly can "be effective," and "begin some very serious negotiation with the North and stop this program."
