#sport Continental ticket fuels Warri Wolves’ hunger

Their failure in the Confederation Cup is driving
Warri Wolves push for the title, striker Stanley
Dimgba has said. Despite a sluggish start to the
season occasioned by the club’s participation in
the 2014-2015 CAF Confederation Cup, which
they eventually crashed out in the third round in
the hands of FC Leopards of Congo, Sharks have
managed to pick up the pieces and are now
surprisingly in the sixth position, with 29 points,
seven less than pacesetters Sunshine Stars and
Enyimba, who have played two matches more
than the Seasiders from the oil city of Warri.
The turning point appears to be in their last three
matches, beating Enyimba 2-1 in Warri, followed
by another 2-1 away win at Taraba before
capping it up with a 2-1 victory over Sharks at
the Warri City Stadium, to the delight of their
fans, who went gaga to celebrate the winning
streak.
And speaking on the sudden turnaround of
fortunes for the club, Super Eagles striker,
Dimgba, who stars for Wolves said their failure to
get into the group stage of the Confederation Cup
fuelled their desire to qualify to play continental
football next season.
“Our failure against Leopards pained us a lot. We
thought we were doing well but suffered an unjust
3-0 loss to Leopards in Congo. We came back
and did our best to redress the situation and
scored three goals but were unlucky to concede a
goal, which marked our end in the Confederation
Cup.
“‘That failure somehow is motivating us to push
for the title and ensure we return to play in the
continent because that is where the exposure is.
We are not new to the continent and believe that
a quick return will stand us in better chance to
favourably compete with other teams from other
countries.
“We know that the journey to play in the
continent is going to be tough but we are ready
for the challenge and hopefully, our hard work and
good performance will speak for us at the end of
the season”, added Dimgba.
