A
member of the Federal House of Representatives and chairman House
committee on Refugees, Sani Zoro has advised the federal government to
negotiate with the Boko Haram insurgents to bring lasting peace to the
country.
He said this while speaking recently during a stakeholders meeting organised by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) held in Abuja to access the plights of Internally displaced persons in the country.

He said that it was time the government commit the nation’s resources to development rather than the purchase of weapons and ammunitions to be used in fighting, saying that “we need to negotiate with these bad boys, honestly.”
Zoro noted that after the death of Mohammed Yusuf, former leader of the group, all that the insurgents asked for was the rebuilding of their mosque and compensation for the death of five members “which would have cost the government not more than four million naira, but today we have lost lives and we are still spending money to curb insurgency.”
