Benue South: David Mark Fires Back at Daniel Onjeh

David Mark has stated his readiness to defend his mandate given to him by the Idoma people at the election tribunal as challenged by his political opponent for a second time.

Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, has said he is not a coward that will lose sleep over the report that his opponent in the rerun, Mr Daniel Onjeh, has again challenged his victory at the election petition tribunal, according to the Nigerian Tribune.

Onjeh, who lost the re-election of Benue South Senatorial District conducted by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on February 20, was reported to have proceeded to tribunal to challenge the victory of Mark in the rerun.

In an interview with newsmen after the first leg of his ‘thank you’ visit to part of his senatorial district for voting massively for him during the rerun, Mark, when asked whether he was moved by the decision of his opponent to once again proceed to the tribunal to challenge his victory, retorted “do I look like a coward”?
 

He stated that the state working committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had issued a statement concerning it.
 

Also lending credence to it, the former Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, said the former Senate President was ready to meet his opponent at the tribunal.

Moro, who affirmed the integrity of the victory of Mark in the recent rerun in Benue South Senatorial District, said the tribunal was not anybody’s farm and expressed confidence in the Nigerian judiciary, which he said had built for itself a high level of integrity over the years.
 

Speaking on the reason for the ‘thank you’ visit to the people of the senatorial district, Moro said “after victory, it is  logical for Senator Mark to personally go round, not to appear to take the people for granted, but thank them for voting for him.”
 

The former minister expressed gratitude on the initiative of Idoma people, particularly the youth, who he said took the re-election of the former Senate President as their fight and stood up to win the election.
