The
Department of State Services has left Nigerians shocked after it was
discovered that the agency is hiding one of its operatives who shot dead
an innocent student.
According to the report, Paul Hezekiah, 24 doing his industrial
attachment at a phone shop along Ahmadu Bello Way, Jos, was said to have
been brutally gunned down by the operative during a raid by the DSS at
the popular GSM phone market over a missing handset. The innocent man
died after the operative left him unattended. He lost too much blood and
died.
Describing his shock how the DSS could maintain silence after a
murder of such magnitude, the Police Commissioner in Plateau State, Mr.
Adekunle Oladunjoye, said the operative who killed the innocent man is
yet to be handed over to the police for prosecution.
The CP said, “The case was reported at the ‘A’ Division and we
had expected DSS to hand the suspect over to the police since it became a
public knowledge. But I have asked the CID to formally write to DSS to
release the suspect to us for questioning.”
In fact, the DSS has frustrated all effort to reach them. It has remained quiet more than a day after the incident happened.
The agency has carried its activity like nothing happened even
after hundreds of traders had protested at the State House of Assembly
where they showed their disapproval over the incident and the inability
of DSS to bring the culprit to book leaving many wondering if the DSS is
above the law of the country.
