PDP asks Sheriff, others to quit May 21

The National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has fixed May 21 as the exit date for the party’s National Chairman, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff and other members of its National Working Committee.

On that date, the party would hold its national convention which the NEC said would take place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where new national officers are to be elected.

This information was contained in the communique issued after the party’s NEC meeting, which was held at its national secretariat at Abuja on Monday.

The communique was signed by Sheriff and the party’s National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo.

Sheriff, who read an abridged version of the communique, also said that the NEC approved the timetable for the party’s congresses.

The former governor of Borno State said, “The  NEC of the PDP in its 69th meeting deliberated on critical issues as they relate to the party and the nation, and resolved as follows: “NEC approved the time-table for the party’s congresses and national convention.

“Congresses commence on Saturday, April 23, 2016 and culminate in the national convention  on Saturday, May 21, 2016.

“NEC approved the party’s guidelines for congresses and the national convention. National convention holds in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.”

The communique added that the NEC also approved the extension of the tenure of office of all organs of the party at all levels until the conduct of congresses and national convention.

This decision would however not affect the party’s organs in both Edo and Ondo States.

Constitutionally, the tenure of Sheriff and other national officers of the party was to terminate at the end of March.

In anticipation of this, the party had, before the assumption of office of Sheriff, fixed March 19 for its national congress.

The NEC also approved the setting up of four special committees in preparation for the May 21 national convention.
