REC warns against violence in C’River rerun

The Cross River State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Gesila Khan, has warned politicians against violence ahead of next Saturday’s House of Assembly rerun election for Yakurr II Constituency.

Khan, who said this during a meeting with candidates of political parties and other stakeholders, noted that any act of violence, intimidation of voters and cheating during the election would not be tolerated.

She said the Independent National Electoral Commission would not tolerate any act capable of tarnishing the image of the electoral body.

It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal in Calabar recently sacked Mr. Eteng William of the Peoples Democratic Party, who was declared the winner of the April 11, 2015 House of Assembly election for Yakurr II Constituency.

Khan said, “Everyone participating in the rerun should abide by the electoral guidelines which listed violence, cheating and intimidation as electoral crimes.”
