Policemen in Benue state have arrested a middle-aged man who has
been parading himself as a catholic priest and extorting money from
unsuspecting members of agrarian communities, Leadership reports.
The fake priest, identified as Mr. Amile Terhile has been posing as a catholic priest from the Katsina-Ala Diocese in the state.
He was arrested at the Wadata Market in Makurdi where he went
reportedly to swindle money from some market men and women before luck
ran out of him and he was arrested.
It was however gathered that the fake priest was using the name
Rev. Father Clement Tartenger to extort money and was apprehended by the
police in the process.
During interrogation, Tartenger confessed to the police that he has
been in the ugly act of ‘duping’ people for many years. He stated that
he used the proceeds from the business to take care of his children and
his estranged wife.
The police public relations officer, ASP Moses Yamu confirmed the incident.
