A woman has left many people touched after she decided to shave her hair on the night of her wedding for a hearbreaking reason.
Joan Lyons
A bride made an emotional tribute to her terminally-ill husband, shaving her head on their wedding night.
Joan Lyons took the heart-warming decision to use her wedding to
‘childhood sweetheart’ Craig, who has pancreatic cancer, as a way to
raise funds for charity. The pair, who are both 44, have known each
other for 27 years decided to marry after Craig confessed he had been in
love with Joan his whole life, while aboard a Mersey ferry.
During the wedding celebrations at the Isla Gladstone, Joan’s close
friend Amy Walsh and Craig’s barber shaved Joan’s hair as they listened
to Ferry Across the Mersey played on a saxophone in celebration of the
moment Craig confessed his love.

A number of local firms donated their time to the wedding, after
the Gift of a Wedding charity posted on social media to request help
from local businesses to help organise the wedding, reports the
Liverpool Echo.
Local photographer Kimberley Struth, who runs a photography firm
with her husband Anthony, was moved by the post and decided to offer her
services to the couple.
She said: “It was really touching. Everyone was telling Joan
that she didn’t have to go through with it if she didn’t want to, but
she wanted to do it.
“I thought it would be a really sad day but it was lovely and it wasn’t at all how I’d expect it to be.
“There were a lot of tears but it was also a really happy event
and everyone was in good spirits - after it was shaved we were all
surprised because she really suited it.
"She looked beautiful.”
Joan, who is fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support, Zoé’s Place
hospice and Woodlands Hospice, posted on her JustGiving page: “On 15th
April 2016 I will be getting married to my childhood sweetheart Craig,
who was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer last year.
“On our wedding night, our celebration party will also serve as
a fundraising event where I will complete my head shave task in his
honour and to honour and support those affected by life limiting
illness.”
The wedding took place on Friday April 15, the anniversary of the
Hillsborough disaster, with Craig and Joan deciding to mark the
anniversary with the release of 96 balloons, one for each of the 96 that
lost their lives.
The heartwarming pictures were taken by Struth Photography.
