A Nigerian man has landed in deep trouble after he illegally registered to vote in an election in far away Ghana.
The suspect, Evangelist and his guarantor
A 32-year-old Nigerian, identified as Evangelist Vandal is in the
grips of Tema Police, Ghana for taking part in the limited voter
registration exercise organized by the Electoral Commission of Ghana
over a week ago.
He was arrested after a lady reported to Tema Community 1 Police of
her missing mobile phone on 9th May this year. The police as part of
investigations arrested Vandal who was the key suspect on 12th May,
2016. The police later discovered that he had an indelible mark on the
forefinger of the left hand.
Tema Regional Police PRO, ASP Ms. Juliana Obeng said the suspect confessed to the crime.
“He admitted having taken part in the just ended limited
registration at Kwesi Plange Electoral Area at Community 1 where he
resides,” ASP Obeng said.
Vandal who has been in Ghana for the past six months thought his stay makes him a Ghanaian hence registering in the process.
According to ASP Obeng, the suspect had a 28-year-old Laundry
operator, Solomon Kpakpo Addo as his guarantor during the registration.
Investigations then led to the arrest of Solomon who is also in custody.
Registering without qualification which is contrary to the
regulation 28(1)(a) of the Public election Regulations Act (Voters
Registration C.I 91(2016) Knowingly presenting or giving false
information to Electoral Commission officials contrary to the
Legislation 28(1)(e) C.I 91(2016).
