Buhari Governemnt, A Deaf & Dumb One- Asari Dokubo

In this interview with OVIE OKPARE, the leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, speaks on national issues among others.

Many Nigerians have criticised you for investing in other countries when you could have done that in the Niger Delta.

I don’t believe in Nigeria. In December 2013, I was arrested based on the allegation that I was the leader of Boko Haram. How is Nigeria faring now under the All Progressives Congress. The fact that the President holds the people in so much disdain and cannot speak with the people who are supposed to have elected him is a shame. But it’s Nigeria, anything goes. I owe Nigeria no apology. I can’t establish my institutions and businesses in a hostile environment. Business ought to be in a conducive environment that will engender profit and so on. The Nigerian environment is still hostile to me. I had the opportunity of going to South Africa and other places to establish my business but I chose to be next door because I believe that would create an opportunity for my people.

Is the Nigerian government still hostile to you?
This is the most hostile government. This is the most insensitive government in the life of this country. All our (bank) accounts were put on surveillance, till today, but they found that this man did not steal any money and he is not involved in any criminal activities. We just thank God. A lot of people think I must be corrupt but they have looked everywhere and they found nothing. This government wrote to us that it was going to pay what they were owing us for contracts we concluded and they certified that the contracts were excellently concluded but they refused to pay.

Does it mean that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been investigating you?
No, every (bank) account was under surveillance. The BVN was actually introduced to place every account on surveillance but they could not find anything. The EFCC cannot come to me because they know I have no skeleton in my cupboard. I never stole any money. I never did anything criminal. The truth is that when you have a pedigree, you are always careful of what will stain your image and that is what has kept me on.

How can Nigeria overcome the present economic crisis in the country?
This is a deaf and dumb regime. Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is trying to placate (Niger Deltans) but that is not enough. We are talking about fundamental issues of self-determination and this issue cannot be swept under the carpet by palliative measures and all sorts of things that people are demanding. This is the worst government in Nigeria because they came with the mindset to kill but unfortunately, they found it very difficult to kill us. People are racketeering with the foreign exchange to the detriment of others. Some people are buying a dollar for N520, while others are buying it for as low as N185 from the Central Bank of Nigeria. So, when people are talking about fighting corruption, I laugh. What manner of corruption could be greater than giving some persons dollars at N185/N190 and others are buying at N520? Now that Osinbajo is trying to block those cracks, the dollar and other foreign currencies have started coming down. When I was driving recently, somebody asked me to come down but I told him I have a waist problem and I cannot walk a far distance. I am not ashamed to tell somebody I cannot walk a far distance. People like Femi Fani-Kayode, Ayodele Fayose and I raised the alarm that Buhari was not (feeling) fine but people said we would be the ones to die first. We will all die but why should one lie?

This is the question of integrity and Buhari has no iota of integrity.

Are you not surprised about the revelations of massive corruption which took place under former President Goodluck Jonathan?
Which corruption? Has anybody been convicted? Is it a crime in Nigeria today for me to keep my money in my house? We have all become ‘Animal Farm.’ So, I can’t keep my money in my house or is it compulsory for me to keep my money in another man’s bank? What is the relationship between Buhari and Justice Ademola, who was handling his case that he sent his lawyer to give him N500,000?

How can the Federal Government solve the re-emergence of militancy in the Niger Delta region?
I’m not a militant but it is very simple. Convene a sovereign national conference to allow the people decide where they want to be. The people should have the right to choose where they want to be. Nobody can force one to be what he doesn’t want to be. Scotland has held one referendum and Britain just held a referendum to exit the European Union. South Sudan also did. Let’s hold our own referendum. We (Niger Deltans) cannot be conquered by anybody. He that doesn’t want peaceful change would be confronted with a violent change.

Nigeria’s Economy Recovering Gradually, Says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said the nation’s economy which is currently in recession was recovering gradually.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke while receiving the outgoing Ambassador of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, Fahad Bin Abdullah Sefyan, in a farewell audience at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“Noting that the last farming season was quite good, and the Nigerian economy was gradually reviving, President Buhari said the two countries would have more areas to collaborate in future,” the statement read.

Buhari noted that the relationship between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia is a mutually beneficial one, which should grow stronger in the years to come.

He observed that the relationship between the countries was strong, adding that apart from visiting Mecca and Medina for religious reasons, a lot of Nigerians are in Saudi Arabian universities.

“I quite appreciate the relationship between the two countries,” the President said.

Sefyan, who spent 20 months on tour of duty, said he loved it in Nigeria and would have wanted to stay for longer, if not that he was now due for retirement.

He commended Buhari’s visit to Saudi Arabia in February, last year, urging that there should be reciprocal visits between the leaders of both countries.

On the security situation in Nigeria, the outgoing Ambassador told the President, “I think you are doing very well, Your Excellency. We know what you have done with Boko Haram, and we applaud you.”

Buhari Orders Sack Of Perm Sec

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the sack of a Permanent Secretary, who has been allegedly using his office to defraud the Federal Government through the award of phantom contracts worth billions of Naira to himself.

The permanent secretary who was appointed by Buhari in 2015, was fired, Tuesday, on the orders of the President.

A source in the ministry confirmed that two police officers drove the sacked permanent secretary from the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, raising concerns as to what might have led to such an action.

A Presidency source confirmed to Vanguard that the President ordered the immediate removal of the top civil servant, who presided over the affairs of one of the strategic ministries handling intervention programmes in the country following evidence that he awarded contracts to companies belonging to him.

Vanguard learned that the sacked permanent secretary had deployed several strategies to evade a sting operation, which had been planned by one of the anti-graft agencies, thereby making it impossible for the operatives to track him down.

It was learned that key officials of the ministry, who got wind of the illicit activities of the permanent secretary, drew the attention of security agencies to the development and called for urgent investigation of the man.

Buhari's Government Has Worsened Nigeria's Economy - Prof. Soludo

A former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo has lambasted the Federal Government for bringing up policies that have worsened the living condition of Nigerians.
Former CBN Governor, Charles Chukwuma Soludo

The Government of President Muhammadu Buhari has been accused of worsening Nigeria's economy and plunging many Nigerians into greater hardship by former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

Soludo spoke in Enugu at an interactive Forum, titled “Big Ideas Podium”, which was organized by the African Heritage Institution. The forum was chaired by a former Governor of Cross Rivers State, Donald Duke.

He said, “Nigeria is now, some say a fragile state, some say a failed state; it is not going to be a tea-party to come out but unfortuately, we are not taking it serious.

“Nigeria is not just in recession but in a massive economic compression; it will be a miracle for the present APC administration to return this country to the dollar size it met in May 29, 2015, if it stays for 8 years, that’s till 2023.

“It is business as usual; propaganda, lies, double-speak. Current government is fighting corruption, insecurity, but we say to them, enough of the blame gain.

“They inherited a bad situation but they have made it several times worst; getting us out here is not a tea-party like I said before. Nigerians should rise in unity; it should no longer be ‘let them’; only united citizens can rescue Nigeria out of this position.”

He urged the masses the take the government into account for all the promises made before the election.

“My idea is that of Citizen United; we won’t get the leadership that we deserve; we won’t get the leadership that we want; we will get the leadership that we demand.

“They gave us manifestoes, promised a lot and we said ‘yea’; how many have gone back to check how far them are implementing those promises; if any party implements 25 percent of its manifesto, Nigeria will get better.

“If you check any State run by APC, PDP or APGA, the three parties that have Governors, can you see spot any difference in any of those States that will distinguish one party from another, it is the same.

“APC said in its manifesto that it will restructure Nigeria, that Nigeria was not one, but after election, has anybody heard about it (restructuring) again? They control 23 States and the National Assembly, all they need is one more State to get the required 2/3; so they have what it takes, but they are not talking about it again.

“If we don’t rise to hold them by the jugular, Nigeria cannot go anywhere. We have to start preparing for a post-oil economy; insanity is to repeat the same thing over and over again and expect different result”, he further stated.

Soludo, who also faulted the clamour for Igbo presidency described it as an “unnecessary distracton”, stressing that you could have the President and his Vice as well as all the ministers come from one village “but the life of all the people in the that village will not move from point A to point B.

The ex-CBN boss further noted that during the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, several members of the economic team, including the finance minister, Deputy Senate President, Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps, SGF, all came from the South-East, “but not one motorable federal highway in Igbo land.

“We want a new Nigeria where it does not matter where the president comes from; we want to set a structure where each citizen will work hard, where security is guaranteed.”

Soludo further lambasted the Federal Government for unleashing security agencies on various protesters across the country, especially the pro-Biafra groups, insisting that they had every right under the Constitution to express their feelings.

According to him, “people have right under the Constitution to protest within the law; the duty of the police is to give the protesters protection. Killing innocent citizens simply because they expressed their feelings is wrong; no citizen of Nigeria should be killed for no just cause; we don’t condone violence, but government should protect its people; once you remove freedom of expression, democracy is gone.”

Other speakers at the event included Prof. Akpan Ekpo and Prof. Osita Ogbu, a former economic adviser to then president Olusegun Obasanjo.

President Buhari has been in the United Kingdom since January on an extended medical vacation.

Many Nigerians have visited the president in London since he extended his medical vacation to recuperate from some of the medical tests he undertook.

Some of the important dignitaries that have visited him include his wife, Aisha, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, the All Progressive Congress National Leader, Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande.

The Herald reports that the president’s prolonged stay in the United Kingdom has however sparked reactions from Nigerians who have called on him to resign from office on health grounds.

Several other religious groups and bodies have also offered prayers for the president’s safe return as he had claimed he is hale and hearty in his last letter to Nigerians.

'Buhari has his right to his vacation; if Buhari will speak to Nigerians, it will be his choice'- Femi Adesina

Speaking on the programme, 'This Morning on TVC', Mr Femi Adesina,, Special Adviser on Media & Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, responded to those who doubt the authenticity of the photos of Senator Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara when they visited President Buhari in London, by calling them haters of the president.  He said:

‘Mr. President will not speak to Nigerians because he has the ‘right to his vacation, we don’t need to intrude.
‘Buhari has his right to his vacation; if Buhari will speak to Nigerians, it will be his choice, his prerogative, we don’t need to intrude. What some people want to do is to ram it dawn his throat… it is a point of principle that Buhari is not speaking to Nigerians.’
‘It is a matter of opinion and they are welcome to their opinion as there are some people who don’t want to believe the words of others and no matter what you say or do you have not done it well, hence you leave them to their opinion.

Buhari's Sickness: 350 Imams Offer Special Prayers For President Buhari's Recovery

About 300 Imams have offered special prayers for the full recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari as he undertakes different tests in London.

President Muhammadu Buhari

Buhari is a victim of transparency, he is hale and hearty- Lai Mohammed says

Information Minister Lai Mohammed on Wednesday declared that President Buhari had become a victim of his own transparency in relation to his current vacation abroad. Mohammed stated this while speaking with State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on the interest Nigerians have shown in knowing the President’s health status. According to him, the President is hale, hearty and absolutely in no danger.
“I can say it without any equivocation, Mr President is well, he is hale and he is hearty; no question about that. “I want to assure you, Mr President is well and he is in absolutely no danger. Mr. President, like I said elsewhere, is probably a victim of his own transparency. He was going on leave, he did what the constitution said he should do, transmitted it to the National Assembly and Acting President was put in place. And he said `while I am on leave, I am going to conduct some medical tests’ which many, or all of us do without announcing it.’’ Mohammed said it was surprising that Buhari was pronounced dead by some people, less than six hours after he arrived in London.
He noted with regret that even those, who saw the President board the aircraft in Abuja en route London, claimed that he was flown to that country via an air ambulance.

The minister, who said that the vice president speaks with president Buhari on a daily basis, added:
“I can assure you that the President is well he is hale and hearty and there is absolutely no cause for concern.’’
Reacting to the suggestion that the Federal Ministry of Information should be releasing hourly bulletins on the President’s health condition, Mohammed said there was no need for that.
“Mr President is not ill, he is not in hospital and there is no reason to give anybody any bulletin about his health, pure and simple,’’ he said.

Nigerians Have the Right to Know More About Buhari's Health Status - Reps Members

House of Representatives members have said Nigerians have the right to know the health status of their President in order to know what direction to follow.

President Muhammadu Buhari

Some members of the House of Representatives yesterday declared that Nigerians have the right to know the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari, reports Vanguard.

While wishing the President speedy recovery, chairman, Committee on Public Accounts, Kingsley Chinda, PDP Rivers, said: “There’s need for the government to give us a blow by blow account of Mr President’s condition truly and not Lai Mohammed’s type of accounts.

“As of right, Nigerians are entitled to know the state of their President’s health at all times because he’s fed with our money, he’s sustained with our money, we pay his medical bills, he belongs to us, he’s our property and we have a right to know his state at all times."

Adding his voice to the extended vacation by President Buhari, Chairman, Committee on Public Petitions, Uzoma Nkem-Abonta, PDP, Ukwa East/West Fed Constituency, Abia, said the absence of Buhari from office, due to a prolonged ailment, was justified because he followed due process by informing both legislative chambers.

The Abia lawmaker explained: “Mr President’s absence from office is in line with the law of nature because anybody could fall ill anytime, even you can travel and fall ill outside the country.

“I do not see any implication in the extended vacation as all we need to do now is to pray for his quick recovery because he’s state property as it is now.

“Nigerians should go on their knees to pray for him to recover and take back his mantle of leadership in piloting the affairs of the nation.

“He has officially written to NASS though we’ve not seen copies because we adjourned plenary but then he owes us no details since he has satisfied our constitutional requirements.’’

In his comments, Daniel Reyenieju, PDP, Warri Fed Constituency, simply said: “There is nothing wrong with being sick because it’s a natural phenomenon about life.

“But what I’m worried about is the manner the information around Mr President was managed because Nigerians are so eager to know the state of his health. And we are all aware of the fact that this is not the first time a Nigerian president is falling ill in office.’’

Buhari's Close Ally Breaks News on President's Health Status

A Nigerian lawmaker reported to be close to President Buhari has cleared the air on the paramount death rumours surrounding the First Man of the country.

Senator Abu Ibrahim

Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abu Ibrahim, All Progressives Congress, APC, Katsina South said Tuesday that President Muhammadu Buhari was not sick, but only exhausted as a human being.

Senator Ibrahim who is one of the closest Senators to President Buhari said that those spreading the rumour that President Buhari is sick missed the point, just as he stressed that the weight of the country’s mounting problems exhausted him, according to the Vanguard.

He reeled out issues that might have taken a toll on the President which include destruction of oil pipe line that has reduced production to almost half, fall in oil price that has affected the economy and led to recession, and the falling exchange rate that has affected the purchasing power of most Nigerians, adding that some of those talking about the falling exchange rate fail to also talk about what led to weak Naira against the Dollar.

Senator Ibrahim who noted that he has been in constant touch with President Buhari, said that he was actually with him the day the president left the country.

Speaking to Journalists Tuesday when he was accosted at the National Assembly lobby, Senator Ibrahim said that every Nigerian is aware of the zeal and passion President Buhari came into office with, adding, “President Buhari will soon come back” noted that there was no need for Nigerians to be unduly apprehensive because Mr. President is not sick but exhausted by the weight of the problems the country is going through.

He however urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the President to come home and continue his work to put the country in a better footing, adding that Nigerians have the right to list what they wanted the President to do when he is back home.
