Photos: Explosion At Mexico Fireworks Market Kills 27, Injures More Than 70

A huge explosion has ripped through Mexico's best-known fireworks market, reportedly killing at least 27 people and injuring more than 70. Video uploaded to social media showed fireworks exploding as a massive plume of smoke billowed into the sky above the open-air San Pablito Market in Tultepec, north of Mexico City.

Drone footage shared in the aftermath of the explosion showed smoke rising from scorched firework stalls.

Luis Felipe Puente, head of national emergency services, said at least 70 were injured and the number could rise.  He also said some nearby homes had also been damaged.

Mr Puente urged people not to come within three miles (five kilometers) to avoid more danger.

Snake Found In A plane Heading To Mexico

Passenger aboard a flight in Mexico were left scared after a 3ft snake appeared in an overheard locker in their plane. On sighting the reptile, passengers unbuckled their seat belts and ran in panic causing the plane to be given a priority landing. The snake was trapped with a blanket provided by the fight attendants until the plane was successfully landed. Then animal control workers rushed into the plane and captured the reptile.
According to Mr. Medina who shared the photos online:

“It was a frightening situation ... but people remained calm because it didn’t get out of that space and nobody became hysterical. Some people got up to see what kind of reptile it was, but nobody got carried away.”

The Airline, Aeromexico have released a statement stating that they are investigating how the snake got into the cabin and would take all necessary measures to prevent such incident happening again.

Thousands Of Mexico Disagree To Same Sex Marriage

Tens of thousands of people across Mexico marched yesterday to protest against gay marriage, challenging President Enrique Peña Nieto’s proposal to recognise same-sex marriage throughout the traditionally conservative country.

The marches were called by the National Front for the Family, a coalition of civil society organisations and various religious groups, and continued throughout the day from Mexico’s far north to the Yucatan peninsula.

Same-sex marriage is permitted in Mexico City, as well as in several states including Coahuila, Quintana Roo, Jalisco, Nayarit, Chihuahua and Sonora.

Peña Nieto has now proposed changing the constitution to allow it nationally.
