A massive dolphin has landed in the hot soup of local residents in Brass, Bayelsa state, after the fish was caught earlier this morning by fishermen in the riverine area.

An online user identified only as BODMAS, has taken to social media to reveal photos of a massive dolphin fish caught this morning in the Brass area of Bayelsa state.

 

The poster who shared the photos, captioned it; "Just in: This was caught in Brass local government area of Bayelsa State at the early hours of today."

 

As at the time of filing this report, the fish has already been served as pepper-soup to the enjoyment of the locals.

Federal Government Inaugurates Water Project in Otuoke, Bayelsa

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has taken development to the doorstep of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The Federal Government on Thursday inaugurated the Central Ogbia Regional Water Supply Project in Bayelsa, South-south part of Nigeria.

The Minister of Water Resources, Mr Suleiman Adamu, who inaugurated the project, said 13 communities, including Otuoke, would benefit from it. According to him, the

Federal Government is committed to complete all abandoned water projects to improve livelihood. The water project costs N5.6 billion naira and it will go along way in curbing the spread of water-borne diseases.

Adamu said adequate water supply for human and livestock production was a crucial aspect of social and economic development. He said the recently launched roadmap on water resources underscore the need for short and long term strategies for effective and efficient delivery of water to the people.

“The project we are inaugurating today is among the high priority projects for water supply.

“This project commissioning, therefore, further demonstrates that the Buhari administration is committed to completing all viable projects that have positive impact on the lives of our people without any political sentiments,’’ the minister said.

He called on the host communities to take ownership of the water project by maintaining it for improvement of livelihood and reducing water borne diseases.

The Secretary to Bayelsa State Government, Mr Serena Dokubo, commended the Federal Government for the project, saying such project was needed in other communities.

Dokubo said the state would continue to embark on project that would impact on the lives of the people.

Bodies of Three Drowned Soldiers in Bayelsa Recovered

Reports have it that the bodies of the soldiers that drowned in a boat mishap in the Niger Delta region have been recovered by the army.

Assisted by military personnel, local divers in Bayelsa State have recovered bodies of three drowned soldiers yesterday in Brass LGA area.

This was contained in series of statements issue by the Bayelsa State Chapter Chairman of The National Maritime Union, Mr. Lloyd Sese. He said the tragic boat accident that claimed the lives of four soldiers in Brass Local Government area was due to poor logistics and use of low powered engine boats to convoy military personnel.

Mr. Sese, who commented on the incident yesterday in Yenagoa, said the preliminary investigation conducted by the Brass Unit of the Maritime Union showed that the accident could have been avoided if adequate logistics were arranged with high capacity engine boats used.

He stated that “they used small boats with low capacity engines.”

He called on the military authorities to consult the Maritime Union for logistics and transport during such movements, while we commiserate with the Nigerian Military on the loss of their men, “we call on the military to consult those involved in the day to day commercial activities along the creeks and the waterways.”

Militants attack Agip pipeline in Bayelsa

Gunmen, suspected to be militants, have attacked a pipeline belonging to an oil giant, Nigerian Agip Oil Company, at Ikienghenbiri community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The pipeline vandalism was said to have been spearheaded by some armed youths within the community.

However, community sources alleged that a supremacy war between rival pipeline contractors over surveillance contract led to the attack on the pipeline.

It was learnt that operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps who stormed the community shortly after the incident arrested one of the suspects.

The state Commandant, NSCDC, Mr. Desmond Agu, confirmed the attack on the Agip pipeline.

He said one of the militants, identified simply as Peregbakumo, was arrested through the assistance of the community leaders.

Agu said he summoned an emergency meeting of senior officers of the command and gave them a marching order to secure all pipelines, oil installations and other critical national assets in the state.

He identified the facility attacked by the militants as a pipeline along Azuzuama area of the Tebidaba-Brass trunkline.

The Commandant said the pipeline was attacked with dynamite at about 12.30am, adding that the community was cooperating with his operatives to apprehend the other fleeing suspects.

He said after the attack, the armed youths laid ambush in the community and shot a civilian member of the Oil and Gas Task Force in the leg.

Agu, however, said the youth took off on sighting the gunboat of NSCDC, adding that his operatives later arrested Peregbakumo with the help of community people.

Agu said, “At about 0300hrs, a gang of armed youths allegedly led by one Suoyou, Iyelawei and Fyneboy, all of Ikienghenbiri community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, vandalised pipeline along Azuzuama area of the Tebidaba-Brass pipeline with dynamites and ignited fire on the line.

“Through community help, we were able to arrest one of the suspects and to identify some of the fleeing suspects.
