“I Support President Buhari” Rally To Hit Four Cities This Week

A coalition of pro-Buhari organisations under the aegis of Citizens Support for Good Governance in Nigeria is mobilising to hold rallies tagged, “I Support President Buhari” across four Nigerian cities this week.

The rallies are to hold simultaneously in Abuja, Kano, Lagos and Kaduna. The organisers of the event argue that the event is necessary to show support for President Muhammadu Buhari whom they say is setting Nigeria on the path of growth.

The co-convener of the rally Mr Moses Abdullahi, said in Abuja, on Sunday, that the rallies were scheduled to take place in Abuja on Tuesday and Thursday, Kaduna and Kano on Wednesday while a grand rally would hold in Lagos on Thursday.

He said before the emergence of Buhari, Nigeria remained a shadow of itself since the return of democracy in 1999.

Abdullahi said, “As a people, we witnessed the systemic looting and raping of our collective resources and consciousness by a few, with far-reaching psychological damages which has rendered us bitter, bruised, battered and hopeless.

“Nigeria today is a nation undergoing rebirth, a people seeking a new path to higher attainment; a diverse community where a new awakening of self discovery can bring about a better economy for us all.

“We have a leader who we all know is different. We know he will not steal our resources, we know he will not sleep until things are made right for us and our children. We know he means well, what then must we do to help get it right faster? We must support President Muhammadu Buhari because with him, it can only get better.”

Good cause. But we also await the response of the Nigerian Police on this. Won’t this protest also be hijacked by people that have other motives? Won’t it lead to chaos like they claimed during the time of #istandwithnigeria, #istandwithtuface?

Abuja High Court Summons President Buhari, DSS & Others to Appear Nov 15th...Find Out Why

President Muhammadu Buhari and the DG of the Department of State Service, have been summoned by the he Abuja Division of the Federal High Court to show cause why seven judges arrested between October 7 and 8 should be prosecuted.
President Buhari

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, on Friday, ordered President Muhammadu Buhari and the Director-General of the Department of State Service, DSS, Mr. Lawal Daura, to appear on November 15 to show cause why seven judges arrested between October 7 and 8 should be prosecuted.

Others equally summoned to appear before the court were the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the National Judicial Council, NJC.

They were all cited as Respondents in a legal action that was instituted before the high court by a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Olukoya Ogungbeje. Though President Buhari will not appear in person, he is expected to brief a lawyer to represent him before the court on that date.

The plaintiff had in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/809/16, applied for an order of perpetual injunction restraining the Respondents from arresting, inviting, intimidating, or harassing any of the judges whose homes were raided in the “sting operation” conducted by the DSS. He contended that the arrest and detention of the judges without recourse to the NJC, was not only unconstitutional, but also aimed at ridiculing the judiciary arm of government.

According to him, the action of the DSS was in gross violation of rights of the judges as enshrined in sections 33, 34, 35, 36, and 41 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended. Consequently, Ogungbeje sought ten separate reliefs from the court, including award of N50billion as general and exemplary damages against the Respondents, as well as another N2million as cost of the suit. He equally prayed the court for an order compelling the DSS to return to the judges, money that were seized from their homes.

Meanwhile, in a bench ruling on Friday, Justice Gabriel Kolawole directed that copies of the relevant court processes be served on all the Respondents. The Judge held that the Respondents are entitled to within seven days, respond to the suit.

However, Justice Kolawole refused an ex-parte motion the plaintiff filed with a view to securing an interim order stopping the Respondents from taking “any untoward action” against the embattled Judges, pending determination of the suit. The Judge said he needed to resolve a number of issues, including the locus-standi of the plaintiff, before he could make a pronouncement on the prayer.

He said such resolution could only be made in an inter-party hearing involving all the Respondents.

Specifically, the plaintiff had through his counsel, Mr. Ayo Ogundele, sought, “An order of interim injunction restraining the respondents, their agents, servants, privies, men, officers or anybody deriving authority from them by whatever name called from further arresting, intimidating, arresting, inviting, seizing or taking any untoward action against the arrested and affected honourable judges and judicial officers pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.”

In a 39-paragraph affidavit he deposed in support of the substantive suit, the plaintiff averred: “That the 1st (President Buhari), 2nd (DG of DSS), 3rd (DSS), 4th (AGF), and 5th (Inspector-General of Police) respondents never filed any petition against the affected judges the 6th respondent (NJC).

“That the 6th respondent is the only body empowered by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to discipline judges and judicial officers in Nigeria. That the judiciary is an independent arm of government in Nigeria and separate from the executive and the legislature.

“That this illegal and unconstitutional action by the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th respondents have been roundly condemned by the Nigerian Bar Association.

“That the 2nd (DG of DSS), 3rd (DSS), and 5th (IGP) respondents carried out their action which brazenly infringed upon the rights of the affected five judges without lawful excuse or recourse to the 6th respondent”.

President Buhari Urge The Press To Support His Administration And Not Just Criticize It

Mr. Buhari stated this in his speech on Thursday at the annual awards by the Leadership Newspapers.

“I expect the Nigerian media to join our government in pursuit of these goals not just to criticize to prove their independence,” he said.

The president added that “the media must continually see itself as true partner in the task of nation building and thus act in the spirit of patriotism at all times in the important role of informing the people of the country.”

Mr. Buhari also spoke about the 2015 elections and the roles of different actors.
Read Mr. Buhari’s full speech below:

I am most delighted to be part of this occasion organized by the Leadership Newspapers Group to honour Nigerians who have excelled in their chosen fields of endeavour.

2.Let me hasten to congratulate my joint award winners, my predecessor, His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR; and Professor Attahiru Jega, the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, as “Leadership Person of the Year”.

3.The events of 2015 which the Leadership Newspaper has chosen to bring to the fore today, marked a watershed in the political history of our country.

4. Those of us who were participating actors in the elections were led by the higher ideal of the future of our great country and the well being of our people rather than the mere desire of politicians to win elections.

5. It is, therefore, our commitment to this ideal, the patriotic zeal of President Jonathan, the impartiality of the electoral umpire, INEC and exemplary conduct of the political parties, foreign pressure and other actors that we collectively disappointed the prophets of doom who had predicted the disintegration of the country after the 2015 general elections.

6. Our democracy has been strengthened by the outcome of the 2015 elections as our people now have more faith in the electoral system in the sense that their votes would count when choosing political leaders at various levels. We, the political class should build on the experience of the 2015 elections to nurture our democracy.

7. I wish to felicitate with the other award winners for the recognition accorded them by the Leadership Newspapers. It is my fervent hope that the awards will encourage all those recognized today to remain committed to good behaviour in their various endeavours to justify this recognition and serve as inspiration to others.

8.The Leadership Newspapers have been in the forefront of promoting democracy and positive values that are necessary to achieve national consensus on the issues that tend to challenge our unity and progress as a nation. We commend the Leadership Newspapers Group and its publisher, Sam Nda-Isaiah for standing firm on the path of patriotism, justice and fairness.

9. Our participation in today’s ceremony is therefore, a mark of confidence in the brand of journalism practiced by the Leadership Newspapers Group as it is a public acknowledgment of the contributions of the media to our administration’s agenda to defeat terrorism and violent extremism in the country, fight corruption and diversify the economy to create jobs for our teeming population and generally improve the standard of living of Nigerians.

10. I expect the Nigerian media to join our government in pursuit of these goals not just to criticize to prove their independence.

11. The media must continually see itself as true partner in the task of nation building and thus act in the spirit of patriotism at all times in the important role of informing the people of the country.

12. On our part, our doors are wide open to media inquiries in line with the transparency and anti-corruption stance of our administration.

13. Once again, I congratulate the award winners today and thank the Leadership Newspapers Group for the honour done to us.

FG To Employ 100,000 Graduates On Food Production

MAKURDI—Over 100,000 graduates are to be employed by the Federal Government and drafted to farms in all local government councils across the country, as extension workers to help government actualise its food production drive.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbe, made this known shortly after he inspected various Value Chain Development Programme, VCDP, Improved Agronimics Practice farms at Sumaka and Taraku in Guma and Gwer Local Government areas of Benue State. Represented by his Senior Adviser, International Donor Partners, Mr. Auta Appeh, the minister said the initiatives were necessary because government “is doing everything to encourage our youths to take up farming as a business and not as a hobby.” In his speech, National Programme Coordinator of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD-VCDP, Dr. Ameh Onoja, said the organisation had constructed roads, cleared farmlands and provided inputs through its matching grants to farmers to galvanise the sector. Acting Ter Guma, Chief Gbor Igyo, urged government to urgently provide tractors and other farming implements and inputs to farmers if the food sufficiency campaign of the present administration would become a reality.
