The former Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki, has died at the age of 93.

According to reports, Dasuki died on Monday, November 14, 2016, and will be buried according to Islamic rites Today, Tuesday, November 15, 2016 by 2:00 pm.

Here are  the 14 things you should know about Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki:

1. The late Sultan attended Dogondaji Elementary School before proceeding to Sokoto Middle School in 1935.

2. Dasuki concluded his secondary education at Barewa College on sponsorship from Sokoto Native Authority.

3. After high school in 1943, he worked as a clerk in the treasury office of the Sokoto Native Authority.

4. He was installed as Sultan of Sokoto by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida in 1988.

5. He was deposed by Gen. Sani Abacha in 1996, and banished to Zing, in Taraba State. It was alleged that he was deposed because of personal issues between him and Abacha.

6. The late Sultan is the father of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

7. He was the first Sultan from the Buhari lineage of the house of Uthman Dan Fodio.

8. He was one of the founding fathers of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam.

9. Dasuki was the personal secretary to Ahmadu Bello in 1957.

10. He worked in the Nigerian embassy in Khartoum, Sudan from 1960 – 1961.

11. The late Sultan also worked with Gaskiya Corporation, a publishing house that published the Hausa daily, Gaskiya Ta Fi Kwabo in 1945.

12. He was the permanent secretary in the regional Ministry of Local Government.

13. In 1965, Dasuki moved to the Ministry of Commerce as its permanent secretary.

14. He was the 18th Sultan of Sokoto.

The late Sultan of Sokoto’s son and ex-NSA, Sambo Dasuki is currently standing trial for allegedly diverting funds meant for the purchase of arms for the military to prosecute the war against Boko Haram.

2baba Takes Peace Campaign To Sokoto (Photos)


Over the past months, Pop star, 2Baba has shown astounding dedication of time and resources in the pursuit of peace in Nigeria.

In his most recent campaign on the 4th of October, the singer led an eight-man delegation to Sokoto, in the northwest of Nigeria on a two-day peace campaign.

In a campaign against religious intolerance, especially in northern Nigeria, 2Baba who is himself a Christian, accompanied by Muslim long standing friend and colleague; Sound Sultan,  Manager; Efe Omorogbe, Hypertek team member; Helen Abutu, and his wife; Annie Idbia, among others visited Sokoto state for a Peace Campaign organized by 2face Idibia foundation ( A Million Voices For Peace) in collaboration with Voices Of Peace from the Sahara and the Justice, Development & Peace Commission (JDPC), Catholic Diocese of Sokoto. This development interestingly is coming barely weeks after his conferment as Peace Ambassador for the Ooni of Ife's Newest peace project.  God bless the king..

Sokoto Government Bought #11m Cows To Orphans For Sallah

Sokoto State Government has disbursed N11m for the purchase of cows for the provision of meat to 4,205 orphans on the Eid El-Kabir Day.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Chairman of the State Zakkat and Endowment Committee, Alhaji Lawal Maidoki, on Saturday said, “N130,000 was given to each of the 85 districts in the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.

“Each of the districts will buy a cow, slaughter it and distribute it to 50 orphans each. The gesture is aimed at providing a sense of belonging to the orphans during the Sallah festivities.”

The chairman averred that the committee has taken measures to ensure the judicious utilisation of the funds.

Maidoki further promised that the committee will monitor the distribution of the meat to ensure that all the targeted children were adequately covered.

He also appealed to the district heads to ensure equitable distribution of the meat from their end.
