Alhaji Kasali Mumuni, 41, is the father of Maryam, 9, and Ojonla, 6. He has been married thrice but report had it that none of his wives stayed with him for more than three years before they were sent packing with their children.

Sunday Vanguard gathered that Kasali left home that fateful day for work only to return to discover that the only fish in the pot had been eaten without consideration for the bread winner of the house. It was learnt that one of the children took half of the fish in the pot and, when their step- mother returned from where she sells herbs in one of the motor parks in Owo, she ate the remaining half.

Meanwhile, when the father of the house came much later and his food was served without fish, hell was let loose. The step-mother, who allegedly was not comfortable with the continued stay of the two children in the house, was said to have heaped the blame on the kids, accusing them before their father that they stole the only fish reserved for him. Kasali’s third wife, who, it was learnt, is yet to have a child for him, had allegedly been asking the husband to allow the two children to go and stay with their mother because their presence in the house was making her uncomfortable.

Narrating what she and her sibling went through to Sunday Vanguard, Maryam said it was actually true that Ojonla ate half of the piece of fish in the pot and that when their step-mother returned from her shop, she ate the other half. According to her, when their father returned and was served rice without fish, he flared up and their step-mother told him that the two of them went into the pot behind her to steal the fish reserved for his dinner while she was away from the house.

Angered by what he was told, Maryam said that their father beat them mercilessly and later went into the kitchen to light the stove and put a knife on it. “When the knife was hot and turned red, he pressed it on our stomachs one after the other. We cried and begged but our father refused to remove the knife,”the girl said.

“Our neighbors, who heard our cries, rushed to the scene only to be told by our father that they should mind their businesses.

“He held us down for several minutes as the knife was pressed on our stomachs”.

She stated that the neighbors later informed officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) who rushed to the scene and rescued them.

“We were taken to the State Hospital, Akure by the officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps who later reported informed the Welfare Department of the state Ministry of Women Affairs”.

The mother of the two children, who relocated to Ila Orangun, Osun State after her divorce from the suspect, is back in Akure to take care of the kids after the torture by their father.

Sunday Vanguard was informed that Kasali is in detention in Owo and would soon be transferred to the state police command headquarters in Akure for further interrogation and prosecution.

An official of the NSCDC confirmed that the suspect was arrested for allegedly inflicting injuries on his children. Speaking in confidence, he said the suspect, still being quizzed, would be prosecuted after investigation was completed.

A 35-year-old South African taxi driver was arrested by the police.

 

The man was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a passenger on Tuesday afternoon.

 

The driver and his passenger were just having an argument in Joburg’s CBD when he shot and killed him.

 

The man handed himself over to the police today, said police spokesman Xoli Mbele. 

 

Mbele said the taxi driver allegedly shot the passenger once in the upper body with a licensed firearm and then ran away. 

 

The victim was declared dead on the scene. He said preliminary investigations led officers to the owner of the vehicle who assisted them with information about the driver. 

 

A firearm was recovered from the suspect, he said.

 

The man was expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court tomorrow.

A social media user has made a shocking revelation online saying that a man turned into a tricycle (Keke Napep) in the Pedro area of Shomolu, Lagos state, after being forced to pick up a key which he dropped on the road.

 

He revealed that a man had accosted a young boy and had asked him to pick up the key which he (the man) threw on the floor, but the boy refused.

 

The man reportedly insisted but the young boy stood his ground and the man had to involve the people around stating that the boy was being disrespectful. But after the man was forced to pick it up by himself, a shocking thing happened.

An incident occurred at Pedro, Shomolu on Tuesday 22/11/12, precisely at famous bus stop. A man stopped a child returning from school and asked him to pick up a key from the ground.

 

"The child refused asking why the man couldn’t pick it up himself and this got the man agitated and he started shouting at the child saying he lacked respect for his elders and all sorts but the child still refused.

"This attracted the attention of passers-by and luckily, a police van was passing by and they stopped to find out what the problem was. After listening to the man, they asked the child who owned the key and the boy replied that it was for the man so the police got suspicious and asked the man to pick up the key. He refused and was forced to. Immediately he picked the key, he turned into a brand new tricycle (keke maruwa)! Everybody ran away and even the police men were scared.

A 47-year-old woman identified as Kate Havord, has admitted she lived as a horse everyday for seven years.

 

According to her, she was galloping around on all fours, wearing a bridle and even eating grass during that time she lived as a horse.

 

Equestrian escapades were all part of the daily routine for art therapist Kate Havord for seven years.

 

According to The Sun UK, the 47-year-old said a ‘horse spirit’ first entered her when she won an all fours running race at school.

 

She eventually had 32 distinct horse personalities she could call upon at any given moment.

 

And Kate, who lives in Chippenham, Wilts, but grew up ‘roaming free’ on a farm in Scotland, would even try to eat her meals a horse when her parents weren’t looking.

 

Kate said: “During the school race when I started to gallop I remember thinking to myself ‘this is fantastic!’

“It was like the spirit of the horse entered me – I felt so free and powerful and this euphoria was intensified by the fact that I won the race by a long shot.

“From that moment on there was always more of a pull to get down on all fours and gallop that to walk along on two legs – I would pretend to be a horse at every opportunity.

“I remember going to my mum and dad’s vegetable patch and nibbling on broccoli flowers, a fennel bush or even a bit of grass – although that was a bit of a struggle to eat.

 

“Sometimes I would even try to eat my dinner as a horse when my parents weren’t looking, although I did get caught a few times!

“I created horse shoes out of old cork tiles and stuck them on to create horse shoe patterns, and I used to use my mum’s empty face cream pots as hooves.

“I’d put them on my hands and walk around on all-fours with them because they’d make that clip-clop noise.

“I also had two old Horlicks cups which made a great sound on gravel, and I made tails out of wool, whips and tack.

“I never fully believed I was a horse, it was more like an extension of my personality which allowed me to explore different things and aspects of my life.

“It was a world I could control and in which I had ultimate freedom and creative expression.”

 

Single Kate, who has no children, said her younger sister Sarah, 44, joined in with her creative fantasy the pair eventually cultivated the personalities of 32 different horses.

 

But her days as a horse were eventually brought to a halt by her dad, the late renowned television actor Conrad Phillips, when she was 13.

 

Kate’s strong connection to horses did not waver though and she struck up a close bond with pet horse Orinoco, who died last year.

 

The spiritual priestess-in-training believes the spirits of Orinoco and her dad appeared to her in clouds when each passed away.

 

 

And Kate, who works with children, believes her childhood behaviour perfectly demonstrates how children use escapism to deal with difficulties in life.

 

She said: “The horse personality all had names – Shazzy was the first, and there was Peanuts, Diamond and Balthazar.

“The list went on and whenever we would come across a word or name that we thought was interesting another horse or pony would be born!

“When we’d go on holiday my sister used to have to choose which horses would come along, and then I would have to oblige acting as those horses.

“We would make little show jumping courses in the garden and I would stretch my skills on all fours by creating higher and larger jumps. I became very skilled at show jumping!

“Eventually as a 13-year-old I was out trotting on my neighbour’s drive when my dad came out and said to me in his Shakespearean actor’s voice ‘there comes a time, my darling, when every young lady has to put away her hooves.

 

"It was then I remember that I suddenly felt a switch go off. That was a really strange moment. That day my childhood was over – I stopped doing it after that.

"Looking back at it now and I think it was a lot to do with coping with childhood stress I think my father struggled to combine farming with being an actor.

"The work was really in London so he used to have to go away for periods of time which I think was stressful.

"He also became ill with a suspected brain tumour, which resulted with him being bedridden for almost a year.

"It was a form of escapism and dealing with difficult things in my life over which I had no control.

"In my work I quite often find that children like pretending to be animals, like injured dogs that need rescuing for example or wild creatures.

"I now see that it is Shamanic to take on the spirit of an animal to give you the strength you need to overcome adversity.

"I can look back and see that maybe that's what happened for me as a child. It has definitely informed my work."
