The Bauchi State government said it has
discovered over 5,000 unqualified teachers
following the recent verification of teachers in the
state.
The deputy governor of the state, Nuhu Gidado,
disclosed this while interacting with the team of
inspectors from the National Commission of
Colleges of Education (NCCE), in Bauchi on
Saturday.
He said it was very unfortunate to have such
large number of teachers who don’t have
requisite qualifications.
Mr. Gidado appealed to the commission to
provide the state with additional colleges of
education which will help in training more
teachers.
He urged the inspectors to assist the newly
established state Institute of Education, Kangere,
by accrediting its courses to make it a full-
fledged college of education.
Speaking earlier, the Director Academic of the
NCCE Abuja, Mohammed Ali, said they were in
Bauchi to inspect the school, and interact with its
principal officers and academic staff, to facilitate
the smooth take off of the college.
Also speaking, the provost of the institution,
Garba Kirfi, said the Institution has facilities to
make it a standard college of education.
He said the school has a functional Microbiology
and Integrated Science laboratories and a
standard library with capacity for 1,000 students.
