Louis van Gaal: I’ve done well to cope with Manchester United’s lack of “quick, creative” players
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has
said he is managing players without the quality
he wants, suggesting the club need quick and
creative players.
The Dutchman’s position has been criticised this
season with the manager struggling to get the
Red Devils into the race for the Premier League
title.
The club finished fourth last season but look like
ending this campaign without Champions League
football.
With many calling for Van Gaal to leave the club
in the summer, the former Netherlands coach has
insisted that he is doing the best he can with the
calibre of the players in his squad.
The former Barcelona boss has once again said
he feels United needs to bring in a creative
forward player, a statement he also made in the
transfer window.
Van Gaal told the Manchester Evening News : “I
have said everything in advance. We need quick,
creative players. I’ve said that, also in the
transfer period.
“That’s a tricky remark of me because I have to
manage players whose quality is not always what
I want. But still we are here, still we are fighting
for the fourth place, also we are in the final of the
FA Cup.”
United currently sit fifth in the top flight, four
points outside the top four. With Arsenal drawing
at Sunderland on Sunday the Red Devils will need
to win their game in hand to have any chance of
catching either the Gunners or Manchester City
and claiming a Champions League spot.
Van Gaal’s men did seal their FA Cup final place
on Saturday when a late Anthony Martial goal
saw them defeat Everton in the semi-finals.
United will now face Crystal Palace at Wembley
on Saturday 21 May.
