Miracle! 7-year-old Girl Survives After Receiving Two Gunshots in Anambra

In what will come across as a most intriguing case of attempted murder in recent times, a young girl has survived being killed.

The young girl identified as Miss Chinaza Obidigwu from Adazi Nnukwu town, Anao­cha Local Government Area of Anambra State was at the weekend miraculously saved from death.

 

The Authority reports that from nowhere, some­body had pulled the trigger, releasing hot pellets into Chinaza, a 7-year old girl, while playing with others in a compound.

 

That brought confusion into the community and ev­erybody thought Chinaza was dead but God saved her.  She is now recuperating at Nnamdi Azikiwe Universi­ty Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.

 

The victim’s father, Mr Tony Obidigwu could not ut­ter a word as tears cascaded down his cheeks.

 

He confirmed that his daughter had been admit­ted at the University Teach­ing Hospital, Nnewi and was presently being operated upon. He added that his wife, who is still in shock, is at the hospital looking after the vic­tim.

 

Although the gun used on Chinaza was found, no one has owned up to firing shot. But the Nigerian police from Nnewi division had al­ready swung into action to unravel the mystery of the shooting.

 

According to The Authority, there were unconfirmed reports that Chinaza was allegedly shot by a former United Nations Peace Am­bassador, Mr Dom Nduagu­ba, 72.

 

An eye witness, Mr If­eanyi Okoye, said the 72- year old suspect, who is pres­ently in police custody, was said to have shot the girl only to accuse his 5 year old son, Master Jacob Nduaguba, of actually doing the shooting when he was arrested by the police.

 

Okoye said: “I was in the neighbourhood when I sud­denly heard gun shots, and thereafter, I heard people crying and screaming for help.

 

“So, I rushed to their di­rection to find Chinaza (the victim) soaked in blood. I immediately joined the mother and some others who were around to carry her to the nearby St Joseph’s Hospi­tal, Adazi-Nnukwu.

 

“But because it was a gun­shot wound, she was refused treatment. So we had to rush her to Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.”

 

The witness said Mrs Obi­diegwu and her daughter were returning from where they fetched water, but on getting to the suspect’s compound, the victim, Miss Chinaza, joined the suspect’s children who were playing outside.

 

“Not long after the kids moved into the compound to continue their fun, the suspect who was sitting at the balcony released two gunshots on the innocent girl,” the witness al­leged.

 

Another eyewitness who did not want his name men­tioned said: “When I heard about the shooting, I contact­ed the police and informed them about the incident.

 

“They came immediately and asked him (suspect) to follow them to the station for statement but he refused saying he was not the person who shot the girl but his 5 year old son.

 

“He tried to resist arrest by removing his clothes and lying naked on the ground claiming he had health condi­tion therefore he should not be arrested. But when the po­lice insisted, he threatened he would ensure they lose their jobs,” the witness also nar­rated.

 

The Anambra State Po­lice Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Okechukwu Ali, when contacted said he was yet to be briefed by the Nnewi police command about the shooting.
