Ghanaian President Swears-In 12 New Ministers

President Akufo-Addo has sworn in twelve Ministers following their approval by Parliament.

The swearing-in held at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

Ghana Election: U.S. Congratulates President-elect, Akufo-Addo

The United States Government has congratulated the President-elect of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo and the people of Ghana for a successful election.

The U.S. has congratulated Ghana and the country’s president-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, on the success of the Dec. 7 Poll.

 

Deputy Spokesperson of U.S. Department of State, Mark Toner, in a statement issued on Friday, said the outcome of the election was a proof of Ghana’s vibrant democracy.

 

“The U.S. has congratulated the people of Ghana on the successful conclusion of the December 7 general election.

“We also congratulate President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo. The peaceful and inclusive nature of the election is a testament to Ghana’s citizens and its vibrant democracy,” he said.

 

The U.S. also commended Ghana’s President, John Mahama, for demonstrating sportsmanship and statesmanship by respecting the outcome of the election, and the country’s electoral commission..

 

“We commend President Mahama for respecting the results announced by the Electoral Commission, calling on his supporters to do the same.

“We also commend him for demonstrating the leadership and commitment to democracy for which Ghana is known throughout the world.

“We commend Ghana’s Electoral Commission for administering a credible election process.”

 

He said the U.S. has also recognised the civil society organisations that contributed to a peaceful, transparent, and fair election.

 

Toner said the Secretary of State, John Kerry, in a phone calls with Mahama and Akufo-Addo, said the U.S. and Ghana had a close and enduring friendship rooted in our mutual commitment to freedom and democratic values.

 

“We look forward to working with President-elect Akufo-Addo and his administration on economic growth, health, governance and security in Ghana and throughout West Africa.

“Ghana has a long tradition of peaceful democratic elections and we congratulate the country on its sustained commitment to democracy.”

President Muhammadu Buhari's name has been reportedly dragged into Ghanaian politics to describe the 'empty promises' made by politicians to selfishly sway voters during election campaign exercises.

 

According to a report by Ghanaweb, the National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has admonished Ghanaians not to make the same mistake as Nigerians, who have regretted voting out former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ghanaweb reports.

Addressing party supporters on Ghana President John Dramani Mahama’s second day campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region in Tema last Saturday, the NDC national campaign coordinator said Nigerians have regretted replacing Goodluck Jonathan’s government with that of President Mahammadu Buhari who has deepened the economic woes of Nigerians.

“President Buhari in his maiden speech asked Nigerians not to expect any change from him culminating in his abysmal performance as he has succeeded in running down several policies and initiatives introduced by his predecessor. He has plunged Nigeria into serious economic hardship”, Kofi Adams said.

He said it will be suicidal if Ghanaians find themselves in similar situation by mistakenly voting the Manama led administration out of office.

“In order to make fair development comparisons between the NDC and NPP, it is expedient for Ghanaians to renew the mandate of the Mahama-led administration come December 7,” he observed.

Several Ghanaians particularly sympathizers of the opposition NPP are yearning for change, making inference to their Nigerian counterparts.

Malik Jabir, former Black Stars player and coach, has claimed that players are getting weak because of too much s*x.

 

The man believes that Ghana’s club players are not doing well because beautiful Ghanaian girls have made them weaker.

 

Vanguard reports that Malik who coached the Black Stars in 2003 said in a national radio that Ghana players indulge in too much s*x rather than train and improve their strength and skills.

 

“They are having too much sex, which is destroying the energy levels of the current national football,” he said. “In Ghana there are very beautiful women who do not want to leave them alone. However, we must know the difference between sex and football. There is time for everything. It’s not possible to reach the top if both are mixed.

 

“A lot of today’s players cannot play 90 minutes because they get tired so easily."

 

The 71-year-old who played for the Black Stars in the 1968 and 1972 Olympics is currently a technical adviser for Asante Kotoko, a professional club in the Ghana Premier League, and was speaking mainly about the level of the country’s top local league.

Super Falcons Draw Ghana, Mali, Kenya In AWCON 2016

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been drawn against arch-rivals Ghana, Mali and Kenya in Group B of the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations. The draw was held in Yaounde, Cameroun today.

In Group A, hosts Cameroun will face Egypt, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The competition, which takes place from 19 November to 3 December in Yaounde and Limbe, will have Cameroun as hosts for the first time.
