SSS Writes Senate Again, Insists Magu Lacks Integrity

The State Security Service has insisted the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, is not fit to head the anti-graft agency because he lacks integrity, a lawmaker has said.

The SSS said this to the Senate in a fresh report dispatched Tuesday evening.

The content of the report was raised by a senator, Dino Melaye, after it had appeared Mr. Magu would scale the Senate hurdle, after answering a wide range of questions at his confirmation hearing still underway.

“In the light of the foregoing, Magu has failed the integrity test and will eventually constitute a liability to the anti-corruption stand of the current government,” the SSS report, read by Mr. Melaye, stated.

An earlier report by the SSS had prevented the Senate from confirming Mr. Magu as EFCC chairman earlier.

Senator Godswill Akpabio Denies He Is Behind Tuface’s National Protest

The attention of the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswil Akpabio has been drawn to a story circulating in the internet, alleging that the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State is the sponsor of the proposed nationwide protest to be led by 2 Face Idibia, to demand answers from the government over different issues in the country.

It is laughable that the only link between the music star, 2 Face and Senator Akpabio which the authors of the mischievous story belabour to establish is that “in 2013, 2Face and his wife, Annie Macaulay were gifted (sic) two brand new Prado SUVs by this former governor as their wedding gift which they amiably (sic) accepted.”

For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that Senator Akpabio knows nothing about the planned protest neither is he the sponsor. In fact, Senator Akpabio has had no contact whatsoever with 2Face for many years.

According to the information being circulated the organizers of the planned protest have stated clearly that their protest is: “a call for nationwide protests as we say no to the Executive, no to legislatures, no to judiciary.”

Is it not idiotic and senseless for anyone to imagine that Senator Akpabio will sponsor a protest against the same arm of government that he is serving as a leader.

As the Minority Leader, Senator Akpabio has consistently maintained that Nigerians should put aside their differences and support every effort that will pull the country out of the present recession. Much as he believes in the right of every Nigerian to express himself, he does not think that mass protest is the solution.

The mischievous attempt to drag the name of Senator Akpabio into the planned protest should be discountenanced as the handiwork of political jobbers.

It has been revealed that Senate President Bukola Saraki plans to remove from office, some ministers and other presidential assistants who fail to measure up in the government’s efforts to exit the country from economic recession.

According to AITNews, Mr. Saraki also said that the Senate would invite on resumption next week all those engaged in the management of the economy to tell Nigerians what steps they were taking to save the country’s economy from recession.

Saraki made this known while speaking during an interactive Town Hall meeting tagged ‘#AskSaraki’, which was organized as part of the activities to mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

Once the Senate resumes, we will invite all those involved in the management of the economy to explain to the people what they are doing to solve the problem. Whoever among them does not measure up to expectation in his or her explanation we will recommend that he should be removed. This is time for co-operation and exchange of ideas.

“As things stand, I understand your concerns and feel your pains about the economy. I assure you that we will work together to bring about legislative and policy solutions to address the lingering economic situation.”

David Cameron Quits As An MP + His Full Statement Of Resignation

David Cameron quit as MP for Witney this afternoon, announcing he would stand down with immediate effect.

The former Prime Minister made the shock announcement today just weeks after promising to stay in Parliament until 2020.

The Witney MP quit 10 Downing Street - which he also swore he wouldn't do - on June 24 after a humiliating finish on the losing side of the EU referendum.

At the time he vowed: "I will continue with my duties as the MP for Witney. It is an enormous privilege to serve the people of West Oxfordshire."

But today he warned it was "very difficult to sit as a backbencher and not be an enormous diversion and distraction from what the government's doing." The full text of his statement below...

"I spoke this morning to the chairman of the West Oxfordshire Conservative Association and I have just come from a meeting with my constituency agent and other members of staff.

"Having fully considered my position over the summer, I have decided that I am going to stand down as the Member of Parliament for Witney.

"There will now be a by-election and I will do everything that I can to help the Conservative candidate win that election.

"In my view, the circumstances of my resignation as prime minister and the realities of modern politics make it very difficult to continue on the backbenches without the risk of becoming a diversion to the important decisions that lie ahead for my successor in Downing Street and the Government.

"I fully support Theresa May and have every confidence that Britain will thrive under her strong leadership.

"It has been an honour to serve the people of Witney and West Oxfordshire for the last 15 years. I want to thank them for making the job of representing them such a pleasure and a privilege.

"I would like to thank the party workers, volunteers, councillors and supporters for all they have done to help me.

"Our house in Dean is the place Samantha, my children and I call home, and that will not change. I will continue to support the local causes and charities that mean so much to me and many others in this beautiful and enterprising part of our country.

"I now look forward to a life outside of Westminster, but hope to continue to play a part in public service and to make a real and useful contribution to the country I love."

Stop Barking and Start Biting - Dino Melaye Urges Buhari to Sack Adeosun, Emefiele & Udoma...Find Out Why

Senator Dino Melaye has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to take drastic measures by the immediate sacking of the Minister of Finance, Minister of Budget and National Planning, and the Governor of the Central bank of Nigeria.

Emefiele, Udoma and Adeosun

In an official statement released in Abuja on Sunday, a member of the Senate representing Kogi-West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to take drastic measures on the ailing economy.

The outspoken influential APC chieftain also urged the president to overhaul his incompetent cabinet with the immediate removal of the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun; Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udo Udoma; and the Governor of the Central bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.

Senator Dino Melaye also accused some members of the president's cabinet as lacking the capacity to deliver on the mandates of their ministries and agencies, adding that Adeosun, Udoma and Emefiele should be axed for the economy to be effectively rebooted to deliver on the change agenda of the present administration.

“At the moment, it must be crystal clear to all discerning minds that the President’s widely-acclaimed magical body language has lost its presumed aura and efficacy. His no-nonsense demeanor is equally neither instilling fear nor commanding respect and loyalty from among his cabinet members.

“It is therefore obvious that the time for barking is over; now is the time to bite and boot out all those who have demonstrated, in the past several months, a crass lack of capacity to effectively carry out the functions of their office,” Melaye said.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, also condemned Buhari’s economic team led by Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo, saying that “their decisions will not be and has never been respected by the economic managers and the bureaucracy in Nigeria.”

The lawmaker urged the President to, instead, constitute an ‘Emergency Ad Hoc Economic Team’ made up of all former ministers of finance, ex-ministers of budget and national planning, ex-CBN governors as well as members drawn from the academia with “deep knowledge of developmental economics to drive the economic revival programme.”

“The President must immediately transit from mere rhetoric to drastic but positive action to save the economy and Nigeria from total collapse. The hunger in the land is real, pervasive, widespread and debilitating for the poor masses.

“As I walk the streets of my constituency these days, I constantly harbour a foreboding that I could be stoned by my angry constituents for the failure of Mr. President to fulfill his campaign promises and expectations to Nigerians.

“Nigeria is tottering on a dangerous precipice, sliding perilously to a certain catastrophe if the current economic malaise is not halted immediately,” he said.

Brazil Senate Votes For Rousseff Impeachment Trial

Brazil's Senate voted early Wednesday to hold an impeachment trial for the nation's suspended president Dilma Rousseff, a process that could see her permanently removed from office.

The vote in favor of trying Rousseff, who was suspended from the presidency in May, was 59 in favor, 21 against.

The Senate suspended Rousseff, the South American nation's first female president, on May 12 over accusations of illegal accounting practices and fiddling the budget to mask a slumping economy.

The Nigeria Police in Ebonyi State have confirmed that the Second Republic Senator Martin Offia Nwali died in a pond behind his house.

ASP George Okafor, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), made the confirmation in Abakaliki.

He said Nwali’s corpse was found in a pond at the back of his building in his hometown of Ameka, Ezza South Local Government Area, at the weekend.

“We cannot establish whether he drowned inside the pond or whether he was killed but investigations have commenced to unravel the mystery behind his death.
“We have not made any arrest so far but we assure the citizens of the state that we would ensure that the matter is investigated to its logical conclusion,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi has described the death of 74-year-old Nwali as a ‘monumental loss’ to the state and nation.

Umahi, who commiserated with Nwali’s family during a condolence visit on Tuesday, described him as a great scientist and patriotic Nigerian.

“His death is shocking to all citizens of the state as his life which was full of mysteries, embodied truth and commitment to the state’s cause,” he said.

The governor who was accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Bernard Odoh, and top government officials, urged Nwali’s children to immortalise him.

“You should live just and principled lives which your late father epitomised during his sojourn on earth .
“The state government would assist the family during his burial and afterwards while upholding the legacies he left behind,” he said.

Nwali’s first son, Oguzor, said that his corpse had been deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki mortuary.

His return to Nigeria in 1972 was facilitated by a former Inspector General of Police, Muhammadu Yusuf, as he was appointed Chairman of the School Board by the then East Central State Government.

He represented Abakaliki Senatorial District at the National Assembly from 1979 to 1983 and was the first individual to submit a written request for the creation of Ebonyi on Oct. 10, 1979.

Nwali lost his entire family in a Forker 28-plane crash at the Enugu Airport in 1983 but later remarried.

The Police Command in Ebonyi also confirmed the retrieval of the corpses of two students of Federal Government College, Okposi in Ohaoazara Local Government Area, from a stream in the area.
