Schoolboy With Severe Peanut Allergy Dies After Eating Sweet Handed Out At Religious Festival
A schoolboy with a severe peanut allergy died after eating a sweet made from the nuts at a religious festival.
An inquest into the tragic death of Aaron O’Farrell at Chesterfield Coroner’s Court heard there were no warnings on the packaging that the sweet was made entirely from peanuts.
The youngster had been at a Hindu religious festival in Birmingham, held 20 days before Diwali, the festival of lights.
The sweets were given out by organisers as worshippers left the event.
The 11-year-old was at home with his parents James and Jayne just before lunchtime when he ate a small piece of the sweet.
Within moments he started feeling sick and was given a soft drink, but soon began having difficulty breathing.
His brother gave him a shot from his epipen and he was still conscious when paramedics arrived, but then went into cardiac arrest.
By the time the ambulance had raced the seven miles from his semi-detached home in Doe Lea, Derbys, to Chesterfield Royal Hospital his heart had stopped beating.
Medics battled to save the “kind and courageous” youngster, but he was pronounced dead later in hospital.
Chesterfield Coroners Court heard Aaron had been diagnosed with a peanut allergy when he was five after he had suffered skin rashes and a wheezy chest after being in the same room as peanuts.
A post mortem after the fatal incident on Sunday 28, September, 2014, showed an “abundance of mucus” and blood in his airways which was consistent with a severe allergic reaction.
Tests showed increase levels of the enzyme tryptase which confirmed Aaron had suffered anaphylaxis.
Aaron has started secondary school the day before he died.

Sad! Girl Dies Of Heart Attack Days After Scammers Stole University Fees Given By Her Struggling Family
A teenager died of a heart attack two days after the cash her relatives had saved for her to go to university was stolen by a crook.
Xu Yuyu, 18, was all set to be the first person in her family to go to college next month.
Her proud relatives, from Linyi City, in East China’s Shandong Province, had spent a year scraping together the £1,128 she needed for her tuition fees .
Excited and proud at the prospect of going away to study, she wasn't suspicious when a phone scammer called her up. She was asked to transfer the money for her fees to a bank account by a person claiming to be from the education ministry.
This same person also told her she had been given a grant of £295
As a result Xu transferred all the money believing she was following the rules as laid down by the Ministry of Education.
The girl’s family said they had no reason to suspect fraud, and Xu quickly ran to her local Agricultural Bank of China branch to wire the money over.
But when they eventually found out that no such grant was forthcoming and that Xu’s entire tuition for her studies at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications had been swindled from them, the girl fell unconscious and was rushed to hospital.
According to reports, Xu later died of the heart attack in spite of two days’ of treatment in hospital.
Linyi authorities are reportedly on the case, but reports suggested it may be incredibly difficult to trace the source of the scam.
Little Boy's Hilarious Answer To A School Test Question Has Gone Viral
A child's hilarious response to a school test question has gone viral but not everyone is convinced it's genuine. Posted to image-sharing site Imgur by Millhousenstein, believed to be from the US, the image shows a child called Austin's writing and drawing exercise in his first week at kindergarten.
Asked to complete the sentence starting with 'hands are for...', the boy simply wrote: 'Touching balls.'
The picture, titled 'My son's first week in kindergarten off to a great start...', has already been viewed more than 328,000 times.
Although not all the commenters agree that the photo is genuine, with some saying the handwriting is too neat for a boy of five. They also say the handwriting is different in both the boy's name and the answer to the question.
